Welcome to Kafuta Tumbung School Trust.!!

Kafuta Tumbung is a village deep in the Gambian countryside. The school project began with a chance visit to the village by Derick and Lisa in January 2012, with the creation of the Nursery School (3 class rooms) opening in September of that year.

We built a new Lower Basic School (6 classrooms, library and Headmasters office) on the same plot and opened to the students in 2023. We now have 250+ children in full time education with every Lower Basic student sponsored by our amazing supporters.

The trustees visit 2026

Both Schools

This month saw all the Trustees visit the school.

It was another fantastic experience, from seeing the new roof on the Nursery school, gifting books to every Lower Basic student, receiving a lovely certificate, watching sports races, presenting the students awards, meeting with the teachers and gifting the nursery kids a much prized wash bag.!

Nursery school

The renovation of the Nursery is complete and is looking fantastic.! Our original school building was in desperate need of attention and the Headmaster asked for the roof to be raised to keep it cooler as it can get hot inside for the young kids. The newly painted walls and now tiled veranda finishes the building perfectly.

NEW..... The Lorimer Medical Fund

A staggering gesture from an amazing generous lady has enabled the Trust to set up a medical fund to cover the whole school and village.

The fund will enable the students, teachers and wider village to access medical treatment and transport without the worry of cost. This is a massive step forward for a remote village.

The best way for young children to learn is always through song.!!
